French Book Fair Is Ready For You!

Special thanks to Deborah, Harry, Fatima and Kaly for helping to set up the book fair. We have a great selection of books from Early Readers to Young Adult, activity books, picture books and first chapter books. See you next week at the book fair!

Festival du Livre

Clairlea is hosting 

Scholastic's Festival du Livre - 

 a book fair featuring French books 

for students in Kindergarten to Grade 8. 

When: Monday, November 14th to Friday, November 18th, until 4:30 pm, daily. The book fair will also be open during parent teacher interviews on Thursday evening and Friday until noon.

Where: Library Learning Commons, 2nd Floor. 

Everyone's Invited: All students are invited however this is a book fair specifically for our French Immersion students. There will be a small selection of books available for our Core French students - students in the English stream, Grades 4 - 8. 

Teachers will bring students through the book fair during the day and parents are invited after school. 

Debit, Visa, Mastercard, cash are welcome.

Remembrance Day, November 11

I have pulled a number of books from our print collection to provide knowledge and reflection for Remembrance Day, November 11.

The books on display offer a wide-range of perspectives about World War I (1914 - 1918) and World War II (1939 - 1945) and Canada's involvement in both World Wars. 

A number of books have been written from the perspective of children: diary entries, letters and narratives.

I have included stories about political unrest in other parts of the world. Students and teachers will see their cultural history or lives reflected in the books chosen and be better able to make connections to wars that were fought before their life time.

Poems, stories and songs reflecting the theme of peace offer yet another lens from which to view wars and political unrest. How people make a difference in war-torn countries help broaden perspective.

Clairlea's print collection offers a selection of print materials that reflect the diversity of our school and community and supports a wide-range of perspectives that help teachers and students view war, peace and political unrest through multiple lenses. 

Overdue and Lost Library Books

Overdue Library Book Slips
Starting in October, I will be sending "overdue library book slips" to classroom teachers to send home with their students. Please ensure that your child's library books are treated carefully and returned on time. Books are expensive and the cost of having to replace books is money that could have been used in other areas of our school. In addition, there are books in our collection that cannot be readily replaced. It's particularly sad when students lose our beautiful, hard-bound picture books. 

Lost Books
We send home "overdue library book slips," check the library and classrooms thoroughly for books that students say they have returned. After a thorough search, the book is declared "lost" in our library system and a cost/fine is generated. Families are expected to pay for lost library books. If the book is found at any time and checked back into the library, the library system notifies us and the money is refunded.  

Please return all library books and help us to keep our books in good condition 

so all students can enjoy them for many years.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair opened today, Wednesday, September 21st and will run until Tuesday, September 27th. 

The Book Fair will also be open on Curriculum Night!! 

Students are able to purchase books at morning and afternoon recess, lunch time and after school until 4:30 pm. 

Please visit with your child(ren's) teacher(s) on Curriculum Night and then drop by the Book Fair in the Library Learning Commons on the 2nd floor.

Percentages of purchases support students in classrooms through the purchase of new books for our Balanced Literacy Program.
